Job description

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ACTIVITIES

The principal duties will include, but are not limited to:

·         Provide technical leadership and expertise to the controls team, guiding them to meet project objectives, and delivering high-quality solutions to our customers

·         Develop, install, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, motion control, robot, vision software solutions consistent with HAHN Automation Group US design standards and customer requirements for all assigned projects

·         Collaborate with Project Managers, Mechanical Design, and Electrical Design teams to understand machine function in order to develop appropriate software solutions

·         Identify and provide reliable solutions for technical issues to ensure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the process

·         Contribute to continuous improvement of departmental processes while staying current with advancements in controls engineering and automation technology

·         Serve as a technical subject matter expert and offer guidance and training to the team on technical issues

·         Collaborate within cross-functional teams to support design decisions, answer project questions, and ensure our controls software systems support the overall process

·         Contribute to multi-site initiatives and discussions within the global HAHN group to further our harmonization efforts

·         Participate in design reviews early to best understand software requirements defined by customer specifications and proposals, and offer design guidance to the assigned programmer

·         Assist with the training of new employees within the software department to bring them up to speed on HAHN Automation Group US programming standards

·         Support Applications Engineers during the quoting process, including answering questions, estimating hours, and potentially prototyping

·         Support the service department by assisting customers remotely or on-site at their facilities, which could include both domestic and international travel

·         Collaborate with the Controls Engineering Manager to document or create standard work practices and methods for our controls team

·         Create and maintain programming tools and templates for the controls team to use

Requirements

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Education: College accreditation with emphasis in engineering or equivalent experience, preferably from within a manufacturing firm—bachelor’s degree with concentration in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science strongly preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 10 years of electrical design, programming, and/or engineering experience, with a preference for 5 years within the special machine industry. A minimum of 2 years of leadership experience is strongly preferred.

Additional Skills:

·         Ability to program and provide technical leadership and mentorship to continuously improve the department's overall programming expertise of various PLC, HMI, robot, motion control, LabVIEW, and machine vision software applications

·         Ability to understand and follow all relevant safety policies when working on assigned equipment projects including, but not limited to: lockout/tagout, electrical safety, arc flash safety, and robotic systems safety

·         Strong communication and interpersonal skills

·         Excellent problem-solving abilities and a detail-oriented approach

·         Creativity and flexibility to find innovative solutions to meet our customer's technical needs and schedules

·         Familiarity with industry standards and regulations

·         Ability to evaluate quotations, specifications, and engineering drawings to identify functional requirements and develop machine control software solutions

 

·         Ability to effectively communicate project status, timelines, and milestones with various project teams and management during the design phase, while maintaining positive, patient interactions to support a successful system

·         Contribute to system setup and testing activities after the initial software is developed, which may require knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, as well as collaboration with internal teams to ensure the system functions as intended

·         A thorough understanding of electrical hardware and software design requirements as they relate to the design of custom equipment

·         Ability to troubleshoot and debug complex automation systems, which may involve addressing software bugs, wiring issues, or mechanical problems

·         Flexibility to manage multiple projects of varying scope and complexity, across different teams and customers, in an environment where priorities are constantly changing

·         Demonstrate a self-motivated, goal-oriented attitude with the ability to initiate and implement tasks, strategies, and techniques that enhance productivity and profitability for the company
